College Success Seminars
One feature that makes Prairie State College’s African American Male Initiative unique is the academic component that connects PSC students to African American male faculty in the classroom.
PSC offers two one-credit College Success Seminar* courses specifically designed for our African American male students to foster their academic success. In COL 101 (Man Up), students learn about the challenges and choices they face, not only as college students, but as minority males. COL 105 (Brothers & Scholars) continues this discussion and fosters a learning environment centered on brotherhood, scholarship, civic engagement, and self-improvement. Both courses qualify as elective credit toward the Associate in Arts or Associate in Science degree programs.
