PSC Christopher Art Gallery Celebrating 20th Anniversary with Special Reception

Prairie State College (PSC) is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the opening of the Christopher Art Gallery and unveiling of the E. Timothy Lightfield Hall of Honor during a special event from 4:30 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 29, in the Conference Center of the college’s main campus at 202 S. Halsted St. in Chicago Heights.

The afternoon begins with a brief presentation in the Conference Center, followed by refreshments outside the gallery. Attendees can enjoy the month’s exhibit, “Odwindifuor Expressions: Works from Ghana, West Africa,” an exhibition of works in various media by artists and artisans from Aburi, in Ghana, West Africa, offered in partnership with the Chicago Heights Sister Cities Program.

The Christopher Art Gallery at PSC was dedicated on October 11, 1996. Named for its generous donors, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Christopher, the gallery hosts six to eight shows per year, featuring local, regional and national artists, as well as student works.

“We are happy to host this celebration to honor both Mr. and Mrs. Christopher and thank them for their contributions, as well as unveil a tribute to one of the college’s esteemed former presidents with the E. Timothy Lightfield Hall of Honor,” said PSC President Dr. Terri L. Winfree. “It is because of the dedication and generosity of these individuals that PSC can continue its mission in our community.”
