Summit on Dual Credit Programs Scheduled on PSC Campus

Summit on Dual Credit Programs Scheduled on PSC Campus [04/06/2016]

Prairie State College (PSC) is hosting the inaugural Illinois Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships (ILACEP) Summit, the statewide conference for dual credit programs, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Friday, April 22.

The summit will be held in the Conference Center of the PSC main campus, located at 202 S. Halsted St. in Chicago Heights, and will feature speakers from the Illinois Community College Board, the Illinois Board of Higher Education, the Office of Community College Research and Leadership, and the National Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships (NACEP). ILACEP is the new state chapter of NACEP, the national accrediting body of dual credit programs.

PSC Associate Dean of Academic Affairs Dave Naze says the summit is an opportunity for stakeholders in dual credit programs in Illinois to collaborate on topics regarding early college access for high school students. It is the first conference of its kind to be held at PSC.

“With the current economic and academic landscape in Illinois, the role of dual credit and early college programs has never been more important,” Naze said.

The fee to attend is $25, and attendees must be ILACEP members.

The Dual Credit program at PSC allows college ready high school students to take qualified high school courses and earn both high school and college credit – at the same time. The credits earned are transferrable to PSC as well as many other four-year colleges and universities.
