Free Document Viewers

These viewers allow you to view documents of the specified file type, even if you don't have the full version of the program installed. They don't, however, allow you to make changes to documents or create new documents. You can view and print existing documents.

Visit Microsoft Office Online for Office Online File Converters and Viewers (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Project, Visio).

Go to Adobe Acrobat Reader to download the latest version of Adobe Reader (for viewing PDF files) or install Adobe Media Player (cross-platform desktop application designed to play back streamed or downloaded FLV or MPEG-4 video content online or offline).

Web Browsers

Many internet problems can be solved by upgrading to the most recent version of your favorite web browser. Here are links to some common ones:

Microsoft Internet Explorer - download security updates or upgrade to the latest version

Opera - download the latest version

Mozilla - download the latest version of this open source browser and email suite

Mozilla Firefox - download the latest version of this web browsing revolution. Integrated pop-up blocking and other features

Multimedia Plugins

Some web sites and courses require use of these plugins to view streaming video, listen to audio files, or view animations.

Macromedia Flash Player - for viewing animated web sites

Macromedia Shockwave Player- another animation format

Real Player - a multimedia player for audio and video. There is a free version - just look very carefully for the link. They tend to hide it on the splash page for the paid "plus" version.

Microsoft Windows Media Player - Microsoft's audio and video player

Apple Quicktime Player - multimedia player for Windows and Mac (not just Mac!)
