Head Golf Coach
Former Prairie State College standout athlete Jeff Zurawicz’s career has come full-circle … once again.
For the second time in his relatively short professional career, Zurawicz, a former pitcher for the Pioneers, returned to take on a head coaching post at his alma mater.
Zurawicz, PSC’s former head baseball coach during the 2006 and 2007 seasons, now fills the shoes of head golf coach at Prairie State.
Zurawicz’s first year at the helm of the Pioneers’ program, in 2011, proved to be one of the most successful in recent memory.
The first-year head coach played an instrumental role in freshman Bobby Sloan’s standout rookie campaign, which culminated with him becoming PSC’s first national-qualifier since Brandon Boren in 2003.
Sloan also made the All-Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference Team.
The highlight of the year for PSC proved to be a Skyway Conference match win Sept. 12 at Mission Hills Golf Club in Northbrook.
Zurawicz, who held PSC’s single-season saves record as a relief pitcher for the Pioneers until John Rafferty surpassed him in 2011, brings a wealth of experience on the links with him to his new position.
The 1999 product of T.F. North High School is currently the First Assistant Golf Professional and Director of Instruction at Tuckaway Golf Club as well as the Director of JKZ Golf and an Associate Instructor for Hank Haney Golf.
Zurawicz’s playing career is equally impressive.
The 2004 graduate of Monmouth College competed in the amateur division of the Moonlight Golf Tour in Orlando, Florida.
While on the tour he qualified for the PGA Apprentice Program in April after shooting a 74 at Urban Hills Country Club in Richton Park.
Zurawicz, who played one year of baseball for the Fighting Scots, compiled a 25-58 overall record in his two seasons and 7-21 mark in Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference play as head coach of the Pioneers’ baseball program.
During that time, Zurawicz’s clubs produced eight all-conference players and one academic all-conference selection.
Zurawicz’s 2007 squad featured five all-conference picks.
During his first stint at PSC, Zurawicz also served as the school’s Coordinator of Intramurals as well as a staff member in the Fitness Center.
