PSC Cross Country Teams Compete at Benedictine Invitational [October 10, 2014]

WARRENVILLE, Ill. --- Both the Prairie State College men’s and women’s cross country teams competed against some of the area’s best Friday afternoon at the Benedictine University Eagle Invitational at St. James Farm Forest Preserve.

The Pioneer women’s squad finished in 16th place, while the men’s team was not able to field the minimum-required five runners to register for a team score, competing with only three harriers.

The PSC women’s team was paced by sophomore Elizabeth Flores (Bloom H.S.) who navigated the six-kilometer race course in a time of 29 minutes, 47 seconds. She finished in 154th place.

Sophomore Bianca Mendoza (Thornwood H.S.), (171st, 33:20), freshman Victoria Falvo (Homewood-Flossmoor H.S.), (173rd, 35:35), freshman Gabriela Najera (Thornton H.S.), (174th, 36:24) and sophomore Mary Cruz-Nieves (Thornwood H.S.), (181st, 42:16) rounded out the Pioneers’ lineup.

On the men’s side, freshman Ben Tucker (Beecher H.S.) led the way on the eight-kilometer course, placing 156th while clocking a time of 31:57.

Freshmen Sam Jaros (Brother Rice H.S.), (166th, 33:19) and Preston Allen (Andrew H.S.), (173rd, 34:40) completed the Pioneers’ attack.

PSC will see action next on October 18 when they travel to the Sauk Valley Invitational in Dixon.

Prairie State’s women's team is slated to race at 10:30 a.m., while the starter’s pistol for the men's competition is set to fire at 11:15 a.m.

 

PSC Cross Country Squads Face Tough Competition at Concordia [September 13, 2014]

MEQUON, Wis. --- The Prairie State College men’s and women’s cross country teams entered the starting box against a slew of the best NCAA Division III cross country programs in the Midwest Saturday morning at the Concordia University Falcon Invitational.

PSC’s women’s squad went up against top-notch talent and placed 16th out of 16 competing teams.

The Pioneer women were paced by sophomore Elizabeth Flores (Bloom H.S.). Flores navigated her way through the five-kilometer course in a time of 30 minutes, 15 seconds, finishing in 146th place

Freshman Gabriela Najera (Thornton H.S.), (32:59, 160th place), freshman Victoria Falvo (33:06, 161st), sophomore Bianca Mendoza (Thornwood H.S.), (33:11, 163rd) and sophomore Mary Nieves (Thornwood H.S.), (38:47, 177th) completed the Pioneers’ attack.

On the men’s side, freshman harrier Benjamin Tucker (Beecher H.S.) finished 113th place with a clocking of 31:49 while fellow freshman Preston Allen (Andrew H.S.) posted a finish of 141st place and a time of 34:00.

The Pioneers will race again on September 27 when they travel to the Beloit (Wis.) Invitational.

 

PSC Men and Women Compete at Cal College Invite [September 6, 2014]

WHITING, Ind. --- The Prairie State College men’s and women’s cross country teams competed at the first-annual Calumet College of St. Joseph Invitational Saturday evening.

The Pioneers’ women’s squad finished in seventh place in the team standings while the PSC men only entered two runners and did not meet the minimum team qualification of five members.

PSC’s women’s squad was pace by sophomore Elizabeth Flores (Bloom H.S.). Flores covered the four-kilometer course in a time of 24 minutes, 42 seconds. She finished in 24th place.

Flores wasn’t the only Pioneer to perform well either as freshman Gabriela Najera (Thornton H.S.) placed 34th with a clocking of 26:59.

Sophomore Bianca Mendoza (Thornwood H.S.), (36th, 27:24) and freshman Victoria Falvo (Homewood-Flossmoor H.S.), (41st, 28:06) rounded out the Pioneers’ attack.

On the men’s side, freshman Ben Tucker (Beecher H.S.) finished 33rd completing the six-kilometer course in a time of 22:56 while fellow freshman Preston Allen (Andrew H.S.) turned in a clocking of 25;14 and finished in 50th place.

The Pioneers will see action next on Sept. 13 when they travel to Concordia University in Mequon, Wisconsin for the Concordia University Falcon Invitational (Men: 11 a.m. start, women, noon start).

 

PSC Women Run to Fourth-Place Effort at Harper [August 30, 2014]

PALATINE, Ill. --- The Prairie State College men’s and women’s cross country teams got off to a fast start Saturday afternoon at the first-annual Harper Invitational.

The Pioneer women’s squad finished fourth at the meet, tallying 91 points while the PSC men ran only two runners and did not have the necessary five athletes to qualify for a team score.

Sophomore Elizabeth Flores (Bloom H.S.) led the way for the women’s team, covering the four-kilometer course in 19 minutes, 32 seconds. Flores’ time was good for a 26th-place showing.

Fellow sophomore Bianca Mendoza (Thornwood H.S.) finished 28th with a clocking of 19:59 while freshman Victoria Falvo (Homewood-Flossmoor H.S.) came in 33rd with a time of 20:31.

Freshman Gabriela Najera (Thornton H.S.), (34th, 21:32) and sophomore Mary Nieves (Thornwood H.S.), (38th, 25:37) rounded out the Pioneers’ lineup.

On the men’s side, freshman harrier Ben Tucker (Beecher H.S.) led the way with a 30th-place effort, completing the six-kilometer competition in 23:22.

Freshman Preston Allen (Andrew H.S.) finished 44th while clocking in at 25:42.

The Pioneers will see action this Friday at the Calumet College of St. Joseph Crimson Wave Invitational (5:45 p.m. start).
