It is Not Too Late to Register for the Mental Health Conference at PSC [10/15/14]

It is Not Too Late to Register for the Mental Health Conference at PSC [10/15/14]

It might be the most helpful and informative conference you attend all year. Prairie State College (PSC) is hosting a conference to help people understand mental health. Titled, “Changing Perspectives and Altering Perceptions: Understanding Mental Health,” the conference is a full day of educational, emotional, and personal stories about mental health – including information about the Illinois mental health system, affordable care information, personal testimonials, and specific breakout sections.

The conference is Thursday, Oct. 23, at the PSC Conference Center, located at 202 S. Halsted Street in Chicago Heights.  Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and the opening speaker is at 8:30 a.m., special guest, Illinois Senator Michael E. Hastings. Hastings recently sponsored a bill in the Illinois Senate that would ensure that funds collected from the sale of the closed Tinley Mental Health Center stay in Tinley Park and the surrounding area. The bill passed the Senate unanimously.

In addition to PSC, the event sponsors include, The Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago, Grand Prairie Services, the National Alliance on Mental Illness and Sertoma Centre, Inc.

The cost to attend the conference is $79 or $99 with CEU credits. The deadline to register is Tuesday, Oct. 21. Registration is available online at prairiestate.edu/corporate-continuing-education/news-and-events. For more information or registration assistance, contact Michelle Guiliani at (708) 709-7957 or mguiliani@prairiestate.edu.

Mental illness impacts people of all ages, all socioeconomic levels, and in the workplace and at home. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, one in five American adults face a mental health issue, one in 10 young people have grappled with a period of major depression, and one in 20 Americans live with a serious mental illness.
