Business Honor Society

We meet on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 1:00 p.m. in room 2501. Prospective members are welcome to join us.

Accounting Certificate
This certificate program prepares students for entry-level employment as an accounting assistant, junior accountant, junior auditor, head or full-charge bookkeepers, or junior analyst. This program is not designed for students who plan to become professional accountants and CPAs. Students interested in these careers should follow the Associate in Arts degree program for pre-Business majors.

Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this program, students will be able to:

  1. Apply the basic accounting skills of costing, budgeting, and quality management
  2. Demonstrate professional communication skills and etiquette
  3. Analyze fundamental business scenarios 

Business Essentials Certificate
This certificate provides students with basic knowledge of business practices for entry-level employment.

Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this program, students will be able to:

  1. Apply foundational knowledge of best business practices
  2. Demonstrate professional communication
  3. Use business math and computer literacy to solve problems

Entrepreneurship Certificate
This certificate provides the knowledge needed to recognize entrepreneurial opportunities and create a business plan for securing financing. Students will learn practical skills with a best practices approach for the purpose of effectively owning and operating a small business.

Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this program, students will be able to:

  1. Recognize entrepreneurial opportunities
  2. Create a professional business plan with financial information to secure financing
  3. Apply theories and best practices for effective business decision making 

Accounting & Business Management AAS
This program is designed for individuals interested in pursuing careers as bookkeeping, accounting, and auditing clerks. The program gives students technical accounting skills. Also, the program draws from business, economics, and general education courses to enable students to be effective in a general business environment. This program is not designed for students who plan to become professional accountants and CPAs.

Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this program, students will be able to:

  1. Use accounting information to make informed decisions about the operations of a business.
  2. Apply management concepts, including the managerial functions of planning, directing, and controlling an organization’s resources
  3. Apply the principles of marketing and human resource management in analyzing business functions
  4. Analyze business scenarios
  5. Understand and analyze ethical behavior in a business environment

Management AAS
This program is designed for working adults who wish to develop or enhance skills for positions of greater responsibility. The program draws from business, finance, and economics to give prospective supervisors and managers guideline for directing the work of others in a business environment and institutional organizations.

Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this program, students will be able to:

  1. Apply fundamental management concepts to solve organizational problems using quantitative and qualitative methods
  2. Communicate the major theories and concepts in the areas of management, marketing, accounting, and information technology in an integrated approach
  3. Explain the ethical, legal and economic environments of business
  4. Apply management tools and techniques for effective business decision making
  5. Demonstrate professional communication
