The Criminal Justice A.A. Degree offers a comprehensive education in criminal law, law enforcement principles, and the justice system. This program prepares you for entry-level positions in various criminal justice agencies or provides a stepping stone for further studies in law enforcement, legal studies, or related fields.
What Can You Do with a Degree in Criminal Justice?
With this degree, you can work in entry-level roles supporting law enforcement agencies,
correctional facilities, or court systems. You’ll be prepared to assist in maintaining
law and order, supporting community safety, and upholding justice. This degree opens
the door to a career dedicated to public service and community protection.
The criminal justice field continues to grow as communities prioritize safety and
law enforcement. Graduates with an A.A. degree in Criminal Justice can pursue roles
such as police officer, correctional officer, court clerk, or probation officer. Additionally,
this degree can serve as a foundation for those interested in advancing to specialized
or supervisory positions or continuing their education in criminal justice or law
enforcement at a four-year institution.
Suggested Curriculum
This curriculum is designed for students pursuing bachelor’s degrees in the fields
of corrections, criminal justice, law enforcement and security management. Students
are strongly encouraged to complete the Associate in Arts degree prior to transfer.
Area A: Communication (9 credits)
- ENG 101 Composition I (C1 900) - with a grade of C or better
- ENG 102 Composition II (C1 901R) - with a grade of C or better
- COMM 101 Principles of Communication (C2 900)
Area B: Humanities and Fine Arts (9 credits)
Select three courses from the list for Area B with at least one course from humanities and one from fine arts.
Area C: Mathematics (3 credits)
Select one math course from the list for Area C:
Area D: Physical and Life Sciences (7-8 credits)
Select one life science course and one physical science course from the list for Area D. One course must have a lab component.
Area E: Social and Behavioral Sciences (9 credits)
Select three courses in at least two different disciplines from the list for Area E including:
- PSYCH 101 Introduction to Psychology (S6 900) recommended
- SOCIO 101 Introduction to Sociology (S7 900) recommended
- CJ 101 Introduction to Criminal Justice (CRJ 901)
- CJ 102 Introduction to Criminology (CRJ 912)
- CJ 106 Introduction to Corrections (CRJ 911)
- CJ 204 Juvenile Justice (CRJ 914)
