Communication Day Event Celebrates Prairie State College Students [04/01/2021]
The fourth annual Communication Day at Prairie State College (PSC) was held virtually Wednesday, March 31, 2021, via Google Meet; 67 individuals were in attendance.
Communication Day was created in 2018 by Professor Ed Schwarz (ret.) to celebrate the many accomplishments of PSC Communication students. This year’s event was held virtually and featured performances by members of PSC’s nationally recognized Speech Team, inductions to the PSC Forensics Hall of Fame, and the naming of the 2021 Outstanding Communication Student Award recipient. A raffle was conducted after the event.
PSC Speech Team: The evening featured an exhibition from Speech Team students as they prepared for the Phi Rho Pi National Tournament, held virtually in Washington, D.C., April 5-11, 2021. Team members Andrew Malone of South Holland performed Dramatic Interpretation and Suzanne Parker of Thornton performed Informative Speaking; Ahmon Williams of Glenwood is also a member.
PSC Forensics Hall of Fame: The Prairie State College Forensics Hall of Fame inducted three new members: 2003-2005 team member Suzann Williams [neé Leonard], 2002-2004 team member Kerry Luckett, and 2011-2013 team member Nicholas Williams. The PSC Forensics Hall of Fame was created in 2018 to recognize those who have contributed to the legacy of PSC Forensics. In recognition of his nearly 20 years of outstanding service to PSC Forensics, the Communication faculty renamed the award the ‘Elighie Wilson, III Forensics Hall of Fame’ in honor of former coach and current Interim Vice President of Academic Affairs, Elighie Wilson.
Outstanding Communication Student Award: The Ed Schwarz, Outstanding Communication Student Award, recognizes communication-track students with a GPA above 3.5 who have taken two or more PSC Communication courses and have given back to the campus community through Communication-related activities. The 2021 Ed Schwarz Outstanding Communication Student Award was presented to Andrew Malone of South Holland.
Raffle Winners: Student attendees were entered into a raffle for prizes, including Economic Forecast Breakfast tickets and $25 Barnes & Noble gift cards. Jamine Anyasor, Lucia Beers, and Lauren Walker won tickets; Aries Lee, Kelly Miller, and Nazario Sanchez-Castillo won gift cards. Winners were emailed and announced via the PSC Speech Team Facebook page.
