Kids@College Summer Program Open to Children Grades K-5

Kids@College Summer Program Open to Children Grades K-5 [05/01/2019]

kidsatcollegeLet learning and fun continue year round by enrolling your child in Kids@College this summer! The Kids@College summer program at Prairie State College (PSC) provides an affordable and exciting educational experience for children in kindergarten through fifth grade (ages 5-10).

Kids@College offers six weeks of fun-filled learning opportunities, including an engaging curriculum taught by certified teachers. Each week is tailored to intrigue students and provide them with a chance to explore, build and learn. Children will use fun, hands-on, activities that encourage creativity in the areas of iSTEAM: inventions, science, technology, engineering, arts, mathematics and more.

“The program teaches skills to encourage interest in future iSTEAM careers, and fosters valuable 21st-century life skills like problem-solving, creativity, and collaboration,” said Kelly Lapetino, dean of corporate and continuing education.

The program will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday, from June 17 through July 25, at the PSC Matteson Area Center (MAC), located at 4821 Southwick Drive. Please note, classes will not be in session July 4. Cost per child is $150 a week with a discounted six-week registration rate of $750. Payment plan options and before and after care are available.

Keisha Daniel serves as the program specialist for Kids@College courses by designing and implementing programs that engage and empower participants. A Kids@College alumna herself, Daniel says the program supported her interest in pursuing a career in education at PSC. She shared that her biggest takeaway from participating in the program when she was a child was that it helped her overcome the challenge of public speaking.

“Giving presentations in school can be a difficult task for a child that is an introvert, but enrolling in a Kids@College writing class helped me develop into the educator I am today,” said Daniel. "I always tell parents the best way to gain insight into our program is to ask an individual who attended Kids@College."

In addition to the full and half-day iSTEAM program, PSC is offering à la carte, one-day courses with a variety of classes to choose from, including coding, young entrepreneur workshop, reality check and more.

Registration is open now. Call (708) 709-3750 to enroll your child today. For more information, visit prairiestate.edu/kids or email psceducation@prairiestate.edu.
