Prairie State College to Host Virtual Summer Speech Camp [06/22/2020]
Prairie State College (PSC) will host its Annual Summer Speech Camp, July 6 through July 16, 2020. The camp meets virtually from 1:15 to 5:15 p.m., Monday through Thursday.
High school varsity and novice speech team members enhance their skills through interactive learning with trained professionals and leave with a greater understanding of the material and how to best deliver it. Highly qualified instructors with hands-on experience in teaching, performing, and coaching help each student prepare and polish one competition-level piece during the two weeks of camp.
“Our staff will bring the same expertise and enthusiasm to students this year as they have every other year,” said Dana Trunnell, PSC assistant professor of communication. “We will just bring it on a new platform. Virtual learning allows us to learn together while we still need to sit apart, and it even carries some advantages.”
With interpretation events, week one will emphasize finding material, cutting material, and discovering delivery advantages. In public speaking events, week one will involve generating ideas, humor, and citing sources. During week two, students will practice, polish, and perform on the virtual platform. The camp will conclude with a performance showcase and awards presentation.
Registration for the camp is underway. The cost is $225 per student.
