Faculty Friday is back! Brianna Abate is an Associate Professor of Communication at Prairie State College. She teaches five sections of Comm 101 and Public Relations. We sat down and chatted about the Foundation’s John Abate Memorial Scholarship which was created after his passing in 2022 and many other topics.

Favorite Part about working at PSC?

Watching the space where students start and where they end up. I love watching students come in unsure of themselves or what they’re studying and suddenly they have an experience and they think “Oh man! I belong here.”

John Abate Memorial Scholarship

It’s in memory of my dad. He died after a brief battle with cancer in Nov. 2022 so the John Abate Memorial Scholarship funds students who are creative or fine artists.

Why should students take Communication Classes at PSC?

No part of your life that doesn’t improve with solid communication skills. It’s a requirement for everyone. It doesn’t matter what you’re studying or where you end up, so you might as well do it here where you have a 1 to 22 ratio in Comm 101.
