Prairie State College to Host Humanities Day on April 23, featuring a Beatmaker Battle

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, IL - Prairie State College (PSC) will host the 4th Annual Humanities Day on Wednesday, April 23, with various activities for the PSC community. The day-long celebration will kick off with the College’s first-ever Beatmaker Battle, followed by a Program Fair, the annual Student Showcase of Art, an Artists' Reception/Gallery Talk, and a Student and Faculty Showcase. The event will include a live DJ, free food, information tables, and an opportunity to purchase student artwork to support PSC scholarships.  

Humanities Day will be held in the PSC Conference Center at 202 S. Halsted Street, in Chicago Heights, and is free and open to the public. See below the schedule of events.

Beatmaker Battle (9:30 - 11:30 a.m.) - Barnes & Noble College Auditorium

PSC has selected semi-finalists to compete in the College’s first-ever Beatmaker Battle. Contestants will be judged by Grammy-nominated and Grammy-winning music producers and musicians, including Teddy Campbell, Mike Ehrhart aka “Agent M”, and Shawn “Blackadinme” Hibbler. Cash prizes will be awarded.

Spring Student Showcase Reception (11 a.m. - 1 p.m.) - Christopher Art Gallery 

The annual exhibition features the works of PSC art students in various media, including drawing, painting, and photography. The Dean’s Purchase Prize will be announced. Student awards, including the Nicholas & Jacqueline Rinaldi Award in the Arts and the John B. Abaté Memorial Scholarship, will be presented at noon.

Program Fair (11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m.) - Rotunda

Attendees can explore the various programs, meet faculty and staff, and enjoy pizza, music, and more. Student artwork will be available for purchase, and the proceeds will benefit PSC Foundation scholarships.

Student and Faculty Showcase (1 - 3 p.m.) - Proven IT Room 

Students and faculty will showcase their work in the following fields: Art, Communication, English, Humanities & Philosophy, Music, Music Production, and World Languages.
