The second installation of The Prairie State College (PSC) Art Showcase at Wind Creek Chicago Southland will open on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, featuring paintings by artist and former PSC Director of Public Safety Art Jackson. The ongoing series highlights the talent of PSC students, alums, and residents of Community College District 515.

Jackson, a United States Air Force veteran and retired First Deputy Chief of the Cook County Sheriff’s Police, is a self-taught artist who began painting while stationed in Alaska. Working primarily in acrylics, he is recognized for his bold colors, heavy textures, and - most recently - portraits of influential Black historical figures. Many of these canvases have been donated to the elementary school he once attended in Chicago.

“My hope is that these paintings will inspire children, connecting them to history while encouraging pride, curiosity, and imagination,” Jackson said.

The new collection, available for purchase at Wind Creek Chicago Southland (17300 S. Halsted St., East Hazel Crest, IL), includes Black Flower (24x24, acrylic on canvas), Mahasi Jewels (24x24, acrylic on canvas), and Shaman (20x40, acrylic on canvas).

The installation will remain on display for two months. Participating artists in this showcase may also be featured at the Christopher Art Gallery at Prairie State College, located at 202 S. Halsted Street in Chicago Heights. Learn more at prairiestate.edu/artgallery.
