For more than 50 years, the Prairie State College Dental Hygiene Program has prepared students for careers in dental hygiene while providing preventive and therapeutic oral healthcare to the community. As part of this mission, the on-campus Dental Hygiene Clinic offers quality care in a supervised learning environment.

What to Expect

Student dental hygienists provide care under the direction of licensed dental hygienists and dentists. As a teaching clinic, appointments take longer than a private practice setting.


Plan for 1.5 - 3 hours per visit. The average student requires about four appointments to complete care. Completing all recommended visits is necessary for effective outcomes.


Each patient receives a comprehensive oral health assessment and a personalized care plan based on risk assessments and clinical findings.

Dental Cleaning

Adults: $25

Children ages 1–9: $12
Ages 55 and up: $18.75
Fluoride: $2

X-rays

Full-mouth series: $20
Panoramic: $20
Bitewings: $8–$16

Free to qualified patients:

  • Dental exam: No charge (cleaning required with exam)
  • School exam: No charge (cleaning required with exam)

Additional preventive services at no charge.


  • Nonsurgical periodontal therapy: $10 per quadrant or $40 per mouth
  • Sports guards: $5

An irreversible gum disease linked to bacterial buildup and toxins, leading to loss of gum and bone tissue and potential tooth loss as disease progresses.


A specialized cleaning below the gumline using specific instruments and local anesthetic to remove bacterial deposits and toxins from teeth and gums.


Begin with an annual dental exam and cleaning. At PSC, student hygienists complete risk assessments to determine appropriate brushing, rinsing, and interproximal cleaning recommendations to prevent or maintain gum health.

Please complete all recommended appointments to achieve intended outcomes and reduce the risk of gum disease or progression of existing conditions.
