Transfer Planning Events

Below are transfer planning events designed to help you achieve your goals. Plan to attend as many events as possible as early in your education as you can.


Thursday, January 28
2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Learn the systems that universities typically use to award scholarships, how to find their scholarships, resources for finding external scholarships to be used at any college you attend - including at PSC - and tips to be more competitive on your scholarship applications. We will also be covering early advising programs which you need to join at least a year before you graduate and lead to more scholarship opportunities.

HBCU or PWI - Historically Black College/University or Predominantly White Institution Panel Discussion

Thursday, February 4
11 a.m. – 12 p.m.

A casual conversation to raise awareness about HBCUs, discuss the pros and cons of each institution type and share the successful transfer experiences of two PSC alum. Sarah Hein, PSC's transfer counselor will be available to share tips about successfully preparing for transfer. This event is hosted and organized by PSC’s Dean of Equity and Inclusion Tiffany Brewer.

Common Application, Common Black College Application, Coalition Application and CSS Profile

Working on your Common Application, Common Black College Application, Coalition Application or CSS profile? Join PSC’s Transfer Counselor at this session to learn more about these systems and go over commonly asked questions.

Career Services for Transfer Students

Career Services assists students in all things related to their career path, including students who are continuing on for their bachelor’s degree. Join us to learn how to create the best resume and list of accomplishments for your scholarship and university admissions applications. We will also cover interviewing skills and how to develop an elevator pitch. These materials and skills will help you when you are completing university applications, interacting with university representatives, securing reference letters and pursuing scholarships.

Library Services for Transfer Students

The Prairie State College Library can provide you with the knowledge, skills, and tools to help you research which universities are the best fit for you. During this informational session, your Prairie State Librarians will discuss the best strategies for researching top colleges and universities, including how to find the perfect “fit” for you, how to find the resources to help write the perfect essay, and where to go to help find and win scholarships and other financial aid. We will also discuss completing the Common Application and your CSS profile to prepare you for applying to universities throughout the country and being considered for the highest amount of grants and scholarships.
