According to the Illinois Higher Education Housing and Opportunities Act, a homeless student is defined as an individual who is enrolled in an Institution who lacks or is at imminent risk of lacking a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence or whose parent or legal guardian is unable or unwilling to provide shelter and care. If you are a student experiencing homelessness or at risk of becoming homeless, the College has designated a House Liaison to assist

Housing Resources

There is no on-campus housing at Prairie State College however, listed below, are local and State resources that are aimed to prevent homelessness.
Entry Point uses the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD)
homeless assistance eligibility guidelines and uniform prioritization policies to refer
people to the right programs based on their preferences and levels of need.

Assists to lead individuals and families from homelessness to self-sufficiency.

Serves people who are experiencing financial hardship. Provides a connection to the
Housing Choice Voucher program for affordable housing.

Provides housing interventions to prevent homelessness when possible, crisis housing
when needed and prioritizes permanent housing.

Provides a variety of services to prevent homelessness and addresses other basic
needs such as food and clothing.
Provides emergency shelter, affordable homes and supportive services that enable
people to overcome homelessness.

Provides a directory to emergency and transitional housing programs in Illinois.
Promotes affordable housing through the public housing and voucher programs in Cook
Provides rent/mortgage and utility assistance as permitted

Provides homeless prevention, emergency rent assistance and access to food pantry.

Provides housing and supportive services for people between the ages of 14 to 26 who
are experiencing homelessness or who are at-risk.

Provides homeless prevention assistance.
