Whether trying to avoid failure or achieve honors status, the Student Success Center’s highly qualified professionals, part-time faculty, and peer tutors are trained to meet students’ needs and to help them achieve their potential.

The Student Success Center offers tutoring in Spanish, math, writing, biology, chemistry, physics, and more. Individualized and small-group tutoring helps improve skills, reinforce motivation, and support classroom instruction.

The Writing Center is available for English, reading comprehension, and all written assignments. The center not only offers grammar help but also is a place to talk about ideas and provide feedback, no matter how much experience you have as a writer.

Only PSC students enrolled in credit courses are welcome to access tutoring and writing services.

Walk-ins are welcome if a consultant is available, but appointments are encouraged.

Other areas: Walk-in is available for the fall semester.  Some online tutoring is also available.  Please email testing@prairiestate.edu for more information.

Testing Services

In addition to tutoring and writing services, the Student Success Center administers assessment, placement, and make-up exams.

All new students entering college for the first time must take placement tests and meet with an advisor before registering for classes. These tests confirm your readiness to take college-level classes by determining your prior level of achievement in English, Math, and Reading.  ACT or SAT scores may be used in place of the placement test. Some restrictions apply.

Click here for more information about placement testing.

Proctoring services are available for students from other colleges or universities who live in the area and wish to have an exam proctored. There is a fee associated with this offering.

Proficiency exams are designed for students who do not have college credit and have substantial knowledge in a given area. PSC students interested in pursuing college credit, including AP, IB, and CLEP in lieu of taking a class at PSC can apply for proficiency testing.  More information on proficiency tests available, as well as policies and procedures, is located in the Proficiency Testing Information Handbook.
