"The tutors were patient, explained things step by step, and always made sure I really understood before moving on. Thanks to tutoring.  I was able to turn confusion into confidence, and I enjoyed learning [because] they provided examples with things I could touch, see and relate to."

On-Campus Tutoring

We offer free face-to-face and some virtual availability in math and science.  Individual and small-group tutoring can help improve skills, reinforce motivation, and support classroom instruction.

Writing Center

The Writing Center is available for face-to-face and virtual tutoring in English, reading comprehension, and all written assignments. The Center offers grammar help with language conventions but is also a place to talk about ideas and provide feedback, no matter how much experience you have as a writer.

24 / 7 Virtual Tutoring

Supplemental virtual tutoring through Upswing is available 24/7, 365 days a year in over 200 subjects in multiple languages. This service provides one-on-one assistance with a tutor to provide support at times when on-campus services may not be available.

How to Schedule an Appointment

Walk-ins are welcome if a consultant is available, but appointments are encouraged to ensure availability.

Student Testimonal: "The [tutors] support made a big difference in how I approached each subject and honestly, I started enjoying the topics I used to fear"

Testing Services

In addition to tutoring and writing services, the Student Success Center administers assessment, placement, and make-up exams.

All new students entering college for the first time must take placement tests and meet with an advisor before registering for classes. These tests confirm your readiness to take college-level classes by determining your prior level of achievement in English, Math, and Reading.  ACT or SAT scores may be used in place of the placement test. Some restrictions apply.

Click here for more information about placement testing.

Proctoring services are available for students from other colleges or universities who live in the area and wish to have an exam proctored. There is a fee associated with this offering.

Proficiency exams are designed for students who do not have college credit and have substantial knowledge in a given area. PSC students interested in pursuing college credit, including AP, IB, and CLEP in lieu of taking a class at PSC can apply for proficiency testing.  More information on proficiency tests available, as well as policies and procedures, is located in the Proficiency Testing Information Handbook.

If an instructor allows you to make-up an exam or gives you an opportunity to take a test outside of class, you will need to schedule an appointment. The faculty member will drop off the exam with us. You will need a picture ID to take a make-up exam. Schedule the exam using the link below:
