G-20: Discipline of Faculty

The Board of Trustees shall authorize the College President and the President's designated representatives to have the right and responsibility to discipline full-time and adjunct faculty members pursuant to general Board policies that delegate broad authority to the President and the administration to manage and operate the College.

A faculty member may be disciplined for good and sufficient cause by the President or the President's designated representative as authorized by the President. Disciplinary action may include, but not be limited to, oral reprimands, written reprimands, and suspensions with or without pay.

If a faculty member is suspended without pay, the faculty member may request a hearing before the Board by submitting a written request to the President within five (5) days after such suspension. The Board, at its sole discretion, may designate a hearing officer, who may or may not be a member of the Board, to conduct the hearing. Where the Board designates a hearing officer to conduct the hearing, the hearing officer shall submit his/her findings and recommendations to the full Board, and the ultimate decision shall be made by a majority of the full membership of the Board. If the Board determines there is cause for a suspension, it shall either accept, reduce, or increase the period of the suspension.

If the Board determines there is no cause for the suspension or that there is cause but that the period of the suspension should be reduced, the faculty member shall receive back pay for pay for the period of the suspension, or portion thereof, that is not sustained by the Board.
