Message to Students: President Dr. Michael D. Anthony [10/15/2021]

african american male, head shotGreetings Pioneers! I hope this message finds you well as we enter the mid-term of the fall semester. I am Dr. Michael Anthony, your new College President, and I cannot express how thrilled I am to serve in this new role. Some of you may have met or interacted with me in my past role as Vice President of Student Affairs and Institutional Effectiveness. As we are back on campus and continuing to reach for normalcy in these turbulent times, I wanted to take this opportunity to encourage you to stay the course.

You made a decision to come to Prairie State College, and I want you to know how thankful I am for that choice and how much I believe in you to finish your goals while here. I see myself in so many of you. I am a first-generation college graduate, meaning neither of my parents earned a college degree. I did not come from a lot of money, nor did I know how to navigate college when I first started. I was just a young black man from North Carolina trying to make his family and community proud.

Like many of you, I had starts and stops, successes and failures, but I'm here to say you have everything you need to succeed. What you may not have, I believe, we can provide. Whether that is encouragement, financial resources, counseling, job support, community, or a second chance, that's what we do. Your instructors are here not only to pour their expertise into you, but they genuinely care about your success. The staff supporting you outside the classroom want nothing more than to see you succeed. You are surrounded by people who care about you -- this includes your fellow peers who share in your experiences. They are parents, veterans, new high school graduates, individuals who are starting over again, and people looking to change careers. That's what makes this such an incredible place to work and learn -- our diversity is our strength.

Please know that I chose PSC because I believe in you and want to do everything I can as your President to help you be successful. I hope you will join me as I host opportunities to meet you, listen to you, and, of course, feed you:) Keep an eye on your PSC email for those opportunities. Thank you for choosing us and working so hard for your family, your career, and yourself!

 In service to you,

Dr. Michael D. Anthony
