How to Enroll
New Students for Credit Courses

New Students for Credit Courses

Step 1. Apply

Complete an enrollment application online. If you have questions about the enrollment process, contact Enrollment Services at (708) 709-3516. Allow three days for processing the application.

Step 2. You're Accepted! Connect with the First-Year Experience Team

Visit the First Year Experience (FYE) page. Register for your orientation session, selecting the date that matches your academic area. If you cannot attend the session date for your academic area, you may select another date. Call or email the the FYE Office at (708) 709-3639 or (708) 709-3622 if you have any questions!

Step 3. Take Your Placement Tests or Submit Your ACT/SAT Scores

It is important that before you attend your orientation session, we have test scores for you. Students are advised to take the PSC Placement Assessment Tests (Math and English/Reading) for transfer programs and for correct placement in prerequisite programs. ACT/SAT scores can be used in lieu of PSC Placement Tests (send your ACT/SAT scores that are within the past two (2) years to the FYE Office). The Placement Test scores determine your placement in English, Math, and Reading courses. No appointment is necessary for The Placement Center. Contact the Testing Center for available times at (708) 709-3558, or visit Placement Assessment Testing and Placement online.

If you are taking the PSC Placement tests, you will need to come to campus to take the Math and English/Reading Placement Tests. You can wait to take the English/Reading Test on the day of your Orientation session if you’d like.

Step 4. Transcripts

Send your official high school transcripts*  or High School Equivalency Exam (HSE) to the Enrollment Services Office.

Step 5. Attend Online Orientation Session

Besides learning about important Student Support Services, meeting important staff members of the college and other incoming students, your Orientation Session is the time you’ll select and register for your fall or spring classes.

Step 6. Pay for College

At your Orientation session, you will meet a member of the Financial Aid Office staff who will discuss how to pay for your classes, books, etc.

While waiting for your Orientation session date to arrive, if you are planning to use financial aid, we encourage you to apply at www.fafsa.gov (this is a FREE application). After you complete and file your FASFA application, the PSC Financial Aid Office will contact you. Financial Aid also can be reached at (708) 709-3735.

Questions about tuition and fees also can be answered by the Business Office. Call (708) 709-3577.

Step 7. Be a PSC Student!

You are now a Prairie State College Pioneer!

*Official transcripts are not required for enrollment at PSC. It is recommended that official transcripts be received and evaluated as soon as possible to ensure adequate advising and progress towards a degree or certificate.

What If I Never Attend?

Course attendance is important to academic success. You must attend the courses you register for at Prairie State College. If you register for a course and never attend, you run the risk of being dropped from the course(s). If you will be unable to attend any courses in which you enrolled, you must drop them. Refer to the academic calendar and the college refund table for applicable dates. Use the A-Z index where information is arranged alphabetically.
