Program Overview

The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and First Responder programs, offered in collaboration with St. James Hospitals and Health Centers, provide a comprehensive learning experience under the guidance of lead instructors certified by the Illinois Department of Public Health. These instructors have successfully completed a 40-hour course in teaching EMT and possess a minimum of three years of hands-on experience as both instructors and industry professionals. Upon successful completion of the certificate program, students are qualified to sit for the Illinois State or National Certification Exam.

The EMT Certificate program equips students with the essential knowledge and skills to effectively respond to critical medical situations in a pre-hospital care environment. Throughout the program, students will receive comprehensive training in key areas such as responding to cardiac arrests, treating fractures, managing various injuries, and handling childbirth emergencies. The curriculum combines theoretical learning with hands-on practical experience to ensure students are well-prepared to handle real-life emergency scenarios.

Upon successful completion of the program, students will be fully prepared to sit for the EMT certification exam. Candidates must be at least 18 years of age to take the certification exam. This certification is a crucial step towards entering the field of emergency medical services and is highly valued by employers in the healthcare industry.

This comprehensive program equips citizens, firefighters, police officers, and others with the essential skills to effectively respond to emergency situations in various settings, including homes, communities, and workplaces. Upon successful completion of the course, students will attain CPR certification.
