About the Honors Program

The Honors Program provides a diverse range of courses, including English, Communication, History, Humanities, Philosophy, Political Science, Social Science, Theatre, Business, Psychology, Astronomy, Art, Music, and Biology. Each of these courses is a special section of a regular class and is exclusively available to Honors students.

Students who enroll in Honors classes enjoy various advantages, including enhanced transfer and job opportunities. These courses provide a rich educational experience in a creative and challenging atmosphere, with individualized attention from instructors. Additionally, Honors courses are designated as such on students' transcripts, potentially opening doors to Honors programs and special scholarships at transfer colleges.

In addition, students enjoy:

  • Special early registration privileges
  • Honors designation on your transcript
  • Eligibility for Honors programs and scholarships at transfer colleges
  • Get to know fellow Honors students
  • Exchange ideas in a creative atmosphere
  • Field trips

Our Honors classes go beyond the standard curriculum to offer students "extras" such as small class sizes, field trips, and guest speakers. Previous Honors classes have had the opportunity to visit places of worship, museums, theaters, and other cultural and educational institutions in the area, contributing to a well-rounded and immersive educational experience.

To begin taking honors courses, you must have either:

  • English 101 placement on all three sections of the placement exam
  • ACT 25, OR
  • SAT 1140, OR
  • At least 12 hours of college-level PSC coursework with a minimum GPA of 3.5, OR
  • For entering transfer students, at least 12 hours of college-level coursework with a cumulative GPA of 3.5

The Honors Program is a gateway to a world of academic and personal growth, providing an environment where motivated students can thrive and excel. We invite you to explore the opportunities that the Honors Program offers and join us in this journey of academic excellence and enriched learning experiences.
